In a jolt for Akhlesh Yadav led Samajwadi Party (SP), the Maulana Muhammad Ali Jauhar Trust run and owned by party's senior leader Azam Khan's family is set to lose 173 acres of land which as per Rampur's court of Additional District Magistrate (Admin) JP Gupta had been wrongly acquired by the trust, reports Times of India.
Following Admin Gupta's ruling that Khan's trust had violated norms to acquire the land, Rampur's district administration yesterday (16 January) issued orders for the acquisition of the land involved.
As per the details shared by Additional district government counsel (civil) Ajay Tiwari, the trust violated the Government order which permitted it to purchase more than 12 acres of land only if it did not buy land belonging to people from SC/ST categories, nor acquire riverbeds or floodplains or any land belonging to gram samaj land or a chak road.
Tiwari also explained that not only did the trust violate these aforementioned conditions, but also acted in contravention of the Uttar Pradesh Revenue Act.
Khan is a sitting Member of the Lok Sabha from Rampur constituency and has formerly served as a cabinet minister in Uttar Pradesh when Yadav's SP Government was in power in the State.
