The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Saturday (23 May) said that over 1.15 lakh samples were tested for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours in the country.
According to the ICMR’s bulletin, as many as 28,34,798 samples of the Coronavirus have been tested so far.
“A total of 28,34,798 samples have been tested as on 23 May 2020, 9 AM IST. Number of samples tested in 24 hours 1,15,364,” the ICMR said.
At present, there are 587 laboratories in the country which have been approved for Covid-19 testing, according to the ICMR. Of these, 407 are government labs while 180 others are private labs.
Meanwhile, the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in India has surged to over 1.25 on Saturday, while the death toll due to the deadly virus has increased to 3,720.
The total number of Covid-19 patients that have recovered from the disease has also risen to 51,784.
With 44,582 cases, Maharashtra has the highest number of cases in the country, followed by 14,753 in Tamil Nadu and 13,268 cases in Gujarat.
