Ministry of Road Transport and Highways(MORTH) has mandated Oxygen tankers plying Liquid Medical Oxygen(LMO) to be fitted with a Vehicle Location Tracking (VLT) device, as per a report in Livemint.
In a letter written to the Principal Secretaries / The Secretaries (Transport) of all States/Union territories, MORTH has stated that considering the current pandemic situation in the country, the need for supply of oxygen to the health centres and hospitals has become essential.
The letter further adds that under section 137(d) of the Motor Vehicle Act 1988, it is required that all vehicles, carrying oxygen. (oxygen tankers and Argon and Nitrogen tankers converted to carry LMO shall be fitted with (VLT) device as per Automotive Industry Standard (AIS) 140.
PIBIndiaMORTH also tweeted in this regard, "MoRTH has made it mandatory for #Oxygen containers/tankers/vehicles to be fitted with Vehicle Location Tracking (VLT) devices. GPS tracking will ensure monitoring and protection of these tankers, besides ensuring there is no diversion or delay."
