Tamil Nadu’s state public sector unit (SPSU) employees will get a Deepavali bonus of up to 20 per cent and ex-gratia depending on their grade and performance, The Hindu has reported. The announcement was made by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami.
The announcement will benefit 3.58 lakh employees of the SPSUs and cost Rs 486 crore to the taxpayer. “Permanent and eligible employees would get between a minimum of Rs 8,400 and a maximum of Rs 16,800,” Palaniswami said.
The bonus for employees will be different for profit-making SPSUs and loss-making SPSUs. Employees of SPSUs that have registered profit would get 8.33 per cent bonus and 11.67 per cent ex-gratia (in total 20 per cent) . However, employees in SPSUs that have registered loss would get 8.33 per cent bonus and 1.67 per cent ex-gratia (in total 10 per cent).
Employees in the Electricity Board and Civil Supplies Corporation will get the same bonus as is given to profit-making SPSUs.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
