In a positive development, the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), Vladimir Norov has lauded India for emerging as the "pharmacy of the world" amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic which has wreaked lives as well as livelihoods globally, reports Times of India.
Making a mention of India's vast experience and deep knowledge in medicine, Norov appreciated India for having set the tone for many regional and global initiatives. He also took note of how India has supplied medicines to over 133 nations across the world to bolster the fight against the pandemic.
Norov underscored that the way India has played this role despite the Government having also undertaken big measures to prevent and treat the disease at the national scale shows India's generosity.
Norov further added that this is a worthy and responsible example of the behaviour of a major power. He also expressed confidence that the highly qualified Indian scientists and medical professionals will be taking an active part in the global community's study and research on the virus and to find a vaccine to treat it.
