Security apparatus in West Bengal and neighbouring Bangladesh has been alerted after a pro-ISIS telegram channel has released a poster in Bengali language saying, 'Shighroi Aschhe' (coming soon), reports Times of India.
Bangladesh already has a significant presence of ISIS sympathisers and operatives with a local terror outfit named Jamatul Mujadiheen (JMB) being affiliated to ISIS. These JMB operatives have been known to often travel to Kolkata and nearby territories so as to recruit more individuals while establishing newer hideouts.
In February 2019, a JMB operative named Ariful Islam was arrested from Babughat area in Kolkata. he was one of the perpetrators in the Bodh Gaya blast of 2018. Similarly several more operatives of the ISIS affiliated JMB have been arrested in the recent past.
Mohammed Musiruddin alias Musa was arrested by the West Bengal CID who was also interrogated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the United States. His associate Amjad Sheikh, a key member of the JMB was arrested in 2014.
Thus, more and more JMB led activity in West Bengal and Bangladesh is evolving into a national security challenge and needs immediate and absolute attention and action.
