Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs’ (MoHUA) Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra revealed that India’s first locally-manufactured Titagarh-Firema train-set for the phase-1 of the Pune Metro project will be rolled out for testing on May 2021, Metro Rail Guy reports.

The train-sets will be dispatched on the 2021 Independence Day and an undisclosed number of Italian train-sets for the project will be sent to India in May 2021 too. Titagarh Firema was handed the contract worth Rs 1,125 crore for Pune Metro’s 102 coach rolling stock in August 2019.

The company was handed a completion deadline of 160 weeks and they disclosed the final design of the coaches in August 2020. Titagarh Firema asserted that these will be the lightest coaches in India with an axle load of 15.5 Tonne. Durga Shankar Mishra visited Titagarh’s local plant in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal along with certain officials of the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation last weekend.

These train-sets will be coloured according to the line on which they will be operating. So the coaches running on the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) – Swargate line will be purple coloured whereas the ones travelling on the Vanaz – Ramwadi route will be aqua coloured.
