Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Sunday (2 June) urged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene personally for the formulation of a national policy to tackle drug abuse, reports The Hindu.
Singh, in a letter, requested PM Modi to advise the Ministries of Home, Social Empowerment, and Health and Family Welfare to address the issue. Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has reiterated his demand for a national policy to tackle drug abuse.
“This important issue needs to be addressed with a little more seriousness than it has received so far,” he wrote, according to an official statement, reports The Hindu.
The Punjab CM sought PM Modi’s personal intervention for the formulation of a national policy focusing on enforcement, de-addiction and prevention, to tackle the menace of drug abuse in the country.
He said a national policy would enable all the states to follow a similar approach on drug abuse, which has substantially hampered the health of people, especially the youth.
Singh also expressed his state’s willingness to associate with the Centre to not only evolve the policy but also to put in place an effective mechanism for its implementation..
