Shah Rukh Khan starrer Raees, based on the life of notorious bootlegger and smuggler Adul Latif has run into trouble in neighbouring Pakistan. The Central Board of Film Censor has decided not to allow the release of the film. The reason for the ban has been reported to be that “the content undermines Islam, and a specific religious sect, (It also) portrays Muslims as criminals, wanted persons and terrorists."
The film also stars Pakistani actress Mahira Khan. Deteriorating relations between the two nations prevented her from being part of the film’s promotions in India. Bollywood film Kaabil, starring Hrithik Roshan was finally released last week in Pakistan after a month long self-imposed ban by exhibitors in the country was finally lifted.

The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
