On a visit to the Jammu Tawi railway station, Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw said yesterday (13 September) that the rail link to Kashmir would be open for the public before 2024, reports Times of India.
Underscoring that it is the Government’s mission to reach “every last person in line”, Vaishnaw referred to the under-construction Jammu-Poonch railway link and said that the work on the track has been expedited and that it would be completed after addressing viability issues in the area.
Vaishnaw also inspected the Jammu railway station and studied a plan to upgrade it along with the Kathua railway station. He assured that appropriate steps would be taken to facilitate pilgrims and tourists.
During the visit, the Minister was accompanied by Jammu’s Deputy Commissioner Anshul Garg and senior railway officials.
It should be noted that Vaishnaw was recently sworn in as a Union Minister into Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi’s Government and has portfolios like Communications and Electronics and Information Technology (IT) along with the Railways.

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
