Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat expressed dismay over the host of incidents and attacks on women taking place in India, indicating the lack of their safety both in the family and society, and called it a matter of shame for all, reports Asian News International (ANI).

Addressing a gathering on the occasion of Vijaydashmi, Bhagwat underscored the need to maintain the sanctity and decency of Indian culture and to instil it in the approach of men towards the females around them.

Bhagwat also stressed that the issues in this regard have cropped up in our society because of shortfalls in the education system, degradation of culture, and the rise of unethical and immoral behaviour in the society.

Stressing on the need to empower women and promote self-defence, Bhagwat said, "We have to make our mothers enlightened, self-reliant, and capable of self-protection."

The message echoes in resonance with Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi's call from his Dussehra address to the nation about ensuring the empowerment and dignity of women.
