The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) on 7 February announced a mobile application called ‘Nmrctickets’ in a bid to avoid the long standing queues like in the case of Delhi Metro, reports Hindustan Times.
In addition to booking tickets, the metro will help users locate nearby metro stations on the 29.7 km aqua line that connects Noida and Greater Noida via 21 stations.
The application is downloadable from both Android play store and iOS app store and will reportedly work as a wallet as well. To enable the app, the NMRC has reportedly tied up with State Bank of India.
“The mobile application will make the commute hassle-free,” Alok Tandon, NMRC managing director, was quoted as saying by HT.
“One need not stand in a queue or approach a counter. One can recharge it as per need and book a ticket to travel in the Noida Metro,” Tandon, who also launched the facility from Sector 27, said.
With the new app, commuters can book tickets from anywhere and produce the QR code in the scanner installed at the entry gates.
Some popular metros such as Delhi metro still have the token system and long queues to purchase a ticket if a smart card is not being used.
“The NMRC does not have a token system, unlike Delhi Metro. We have a bar code, smart card and now a mobile app to pay for a ride,” another NMRC official said.

Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
