Rejecting government’s objections on the elevation of Justices Aniruddha Bose and AS Bopanna to the Supreme Court, the SC Collegium has reiterated its recommendation to promote them to the apex court, reports The New Indian Express. The Collegium observed that nothing adverse had been found regarding the competence, conduct or integrity of the nominated Judges.

According to the report, the apex court Collegium has also recommended the names of Justices BR Gavai and Surya Kant for elevation to the SC.

A five-member Collegium headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi had met on Wednesday (8 May) and deliberated on the issue of elevation of the four high court judges.

"In view of the above, on due consideration of all aspects mentioned in the file, the Collegium resolves to reiterate the aforementioned recommendation dated 12th April, 2019, especially since nothing adverse regarding competence, conduct or integrity of Justices Aniruddha Bose, and A S Bopanna, has been pointed out," the Collegium said in its 8 May resolution, which was made public on the apex court’s website on Thursday (9 May).

While Justice Bopanna is the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court, Justice Bose is the Jharkhand High Court Chief Justice.

Justice Kant is the incumbent Chief Justice of the Himachal High Court while Justice Gavai is presently a judge of the Bombay High Court.
