Gurugram Metro Spur To Railway Station Finalised, Rs 450 Crore Project Awaits State And Centre’s Nod

The plan to link the Gurugram Railway Station directly with the city’s metro network has taken a concrete step forward, with the proposal for a 1.8 km metro spur from Sector 5 to the station now finalised.

According to a Hindustan Times report, the proposal will soon be placed before the Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) board for approval before being forwarded to the Haryana government and the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for the final green light.

Once approved, the spur will be incorporated into the Phase 2 tender of the Gurugram Metro project, replacing the earlier plan to connect the two points through a skywalk. The state government had opted for a dedicated metro extension instead of the skywalk in November last year.

A report prepared by the Railway India Technical and Engineering Services (RITES) estimated the cost of the spur at Rs 450 crore.

The extension is expected to significantly boost ridership, as the Gurugram Railway Station serves a large number of daily commuters travelling within the city and nearby regions.

The GMRL’s broader metro network is designed to link new and old Gurugram through a circular route, with a metro station already planned at Sector 5 which is just just 2 km from the railway station.

According to the land survey, the new railway station metro stop will require 1,069 square metres, including government, private, and railway land parcels.

“This plan will be submitted to the GMRL board for approval and thereafter sent to the Haryana government and Union Urban Development Ministry for final approval,” a senior official was quoted as saying.

The proposed interchange station at Sector 5 will also serve the upcoming Bhondsi–Gurugram corridor, which will now terminate at Sector 5 following this new connection.
