Ashwini Vaishnaw Reviews Gujarat’s Semiconductor Progress, Announces Expansion Of Ahmedabad Railway Station With Bullet Train Project

Union Minister for Electronics-IT and Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw reviewed the progress of Gujarat’s four semiconductor plants and inspected the ongoing bullet train station construction at Ahmedabad’s Kalupur Railway Station.

At a high-level review meeting in Gandhinagar, attended by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, and IT Minister Arjun Modhwadia, Vaishnaw said work on all semiconductor units is showing good progress.

He noted that three plants are expected to reach a good production level within the next two to three months, with pilot production already underway at Kaynes and CG sites.

Vaishnaw highlighted that Micron’s mini-plant has entered pilot production, while construction of the semiconductor fabrication unit in Dholera is progressing rapidly.

He added that in just four years since the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) began in 2021, India’s chip ecosystem has transitioned from vision to reality.

The mission, backed by a Rs 76,000 crore Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, has already allocated most of its corpus to semiconductor projects aimed at achieving self-reliance in chip manufacturing.

A key milestone was reached on 28 August, when CG-Semi rolled out the first ‘Made in India’ chip from its OSAT pilot line in Sanand.

Later in Ahmedabad, Vaishnaw visited the bullet train station site at Kalupur, where he announced a major capacity expansion for the city’s main railway hub.

“A 16-floor station will be built here...the bullet train station is being constructed on the side of platform number 10. Due to its construction, space has been created on this side for the construction of three new platforms,” he said.

Once completed, the addition will allow more trains to halt at Ahmedabad Junction, significantly improving operational capacity and commuter convenience.
