Send At Least One Male Member To Farmer Protests In Delhi Or Pay Fine: Punjab Panchayats Tell Village HouseholdsFarmer Protests in Delhi (Doordarshan)

Village panchayats in Punjab have issued orders to the villagers to join the ongoing farmers’ protests on the borders of Delhi or pay fine, reports TOI.

Reportedly, panchayats of at least five villages in the Malwa region of Punjab passed resolutions under which each family in the village would have to send at least one male member for one week to the protests.

The families who fail to comply have been asked to pay a fine. The panchayats say that these were “just to motivate” the households for participation.

Kararvala village in Bhatinda district, Sivian village in Kotkapur block of Faridkot district, Thikriwal village in Barnala district, Barey village in Budhlada block of Mansa and panchayat of Natheha village in Bathinda district too passed resolutions to this affect.

In Kararwala, a household would have to pay Rs 2,100 the panchayat if none of its male members participates in the protest.

The farmers have been protesting against the three Farm Acts passed by the union government since November last year. Recently, a tractor rally organised by farmers in the national capital on Republic Day turned violent, leading to damage to public property and attacks on policemen.
