Uttar Pradesh (UP) Minister Anand Swaroop Shukla said on Sunday (29 December) that the rioters protesting against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) will be met with such stringent action which will be remembered by "seven generations," reports Asian News International (ANI).
Minister Shukla lauded the police action against the rioters who advanced to violent means while protesting against the CAA, 2019 which received the consent of both houses of the Parliament earlier during the Winter Session.
The State's Police has so far arrested a total of 1,113 individuals in different parts of the State for partaking in violence during protests in which as many as 19 people have lost their lives. A total of 327 FIRs have been lodged so far.
The nation has been witnessing violent protests against the Act which grants Indian citizenship to persecuted religious minorities from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh who came to India before 31 December 2014.
