Shaheen Bagh organiser Sharjeel Imam is said to be a highly radicalised individual who wants to see India turn into an Islamic state, the Delhi police is said to have ascertained in its interrogation, ANI has reported.
Sharjeel Imam has also indirectly confirmed that he has indeed made statements demanding the separation of Assam from India after having admitted that no tampering has been done to his videos. He has also not showed any remorse over his arrest.
The Delhi Police is now also investigating Imam’s links with the Islamic Youth Organisation and radical Islamist organisation PFI. It is also probing his social media accounts for more details and has sent his videos to a forensic lab for examination.
Imam has been sent to a five day judicial custody of Delhi Police’s crime branch. Imam who wanted Assam cut-off from India was arrested on Tuesday (28 January) in Bihar’s Jahanabad by Delhi police.

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
