Haryana Police have taken into custody a woman who threw her slipper at Congress leader and Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu during a campaign meet in Rohtak, reports Asian News International.

The woman claims that she attacked Sidhu because he “spoke against Modi”. The slipper is believed to have missed its mark. Sidhu has previously been vocal about his criticism on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, joining in the chorus of his party’s leaders in attacking the BJP leader.

In another embarrassment for the opposition, the members of the crowd which Sidhu was addressing could be heard chanting “Modi, Modi”, as per a Republic report.

The incident is the latest in a string of occurrences in which political leaders have been targeted in public with physical attacks; recently Aam Aadmi Party chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was slapped by a man from the crowd while conducting a campaign rally.
