Spanish engineering, technology and consultancy (ETC), Ayesa bagged a 311 crore contract to provide technical assistance (General consultancy) for the Regional Rapid Transport System (RRTS) which would run between Delhi and Meerut, Rail Metro News reports.
Ayesa secured the major contract for India’s first rapid line in consortium with Italian state railway engineering group Italferr to manage and supervise the entire rail corridor, except for civil work supervision. They would be covering all phases from tender and design to commissioning and initial operating.
The RRTS is promoted by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC). The train's design would help it run at a speed of 180 km/hr allowing the train to cover 82 km in 62 minutes, in half of the current journey time. The metro would link cities of Metro, Ghaziabad and Meerut.
Earlier, Ayesa signed the contract with NCRTC to design four elevated stations on the corridor and two depots. With the RRTS, the NCRTC is aiming to improve the transport system in New Delhi and the Delhi metropolitan area.
