In a major step to bolster the security and counter-terrorism apparatus in the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), the Government of India has deployed units from the special forces of all three services of the Indian Armed Forces, the Army, the Navy and the Air Force, reports India Today.

The top-notch troops from the Army's Para Special Forces (SF) commandos, Navy's Marine commandos (MARCOS) and Air Force's Garud commandos units have been deployed under the combined force structure of the Armed Forces Special Operations Division (AFSOD) which serves directly under the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

The highly-trained and elite commando force has been deployed around the Srinagar city and areas near it. For instance, the MARCOS commandos have been deployed in and around the Wular lake and nearby areas.

Meanwhile, the Garud commandos from the Air Force have been deployed in Lolab and Hajin areas. On the other hand, the Army's Para SF commandos have been serving in traditional terrorist hotbeds.

The intention behind the deployment of the best-in-class forces by the Government of India is to strengthen the anti-terrorist operations in the region and provide muscle to the existing Rashtriya Rifles unit of the Indian Army which is leading the security upkeep and vigil in the territory.
