A local BJP leader was among two arrested while another person surrendered in court over the lynching of a meat trader in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh district recently, police said.
Nityanand Mahato, a local BJP leader, and Santosh Singh were arrested yesterday (1 July) over the 29 June murder. Another accused Chhotu Rana surrendered in Ramgarh court, Superintendent of Police Kishore Kaushal said. Police have also taken a man into custody for interrogation.
Forty-year-old Alimuddin Ansari , a resident of village Manua in Hazaribagh district, succumbed to his injuries on Friday sustained in the assault on Thursday when the mob beat him on suspicion that he was carrying beef in his vehicle. They set his vehicle on fire, in the Bazaartand locality of Ramgarh.
The district administration had imposed prohibitory orders under section 144 and deployed additional security forces in view of the tensions.
