The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested five members of the now-banned Popular Front of India (PFI) after conducting searches at multiple locations in Tamil Nadu this morning (9 May).
They are accused of being part of the PFI criminal conspiracy case.
NIA searches were conducted across Chennai, Madurai, Dindigul and Theni resulting in the arrest of five accused - Abdul Razzak (47) from Chennai), Advocates Mohamed Yusuf (35) and Mohammed Abbas (45) from Madurai, Kyzer A (45) from Dindigul and Sathik Ali (39) from Theni district.
The NIA said that the operation yielded incriminating materials such as sharp-edged weapons, digital devices and documents.
The criminal conspiracy case against the PFI was registered in September 2022. Subsequently, the agency filed a chargesheet against 10 accused persons in March 2023.
