Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Jagat Prakash Nadda arrived in Coimbatore this evening. He was welcomed by Tamil Nadu BJP leaders led by state president K Annamalai.
He is scheduled to address a public meeting and visit the house of a party worker.
Nadda’s arrival in Coimbatore was delayed by a few hours and so he is not expected to have darshan at the Kottai Eswaran temple as planned earlier.
According to political commentators, this visit could set the ground for determining the Tamil Nadu BJP’s election strategy for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
While the BJP and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) had allied in the 2019 elections, there are talks of the BJP wanting to go fight it alone this time, riding on the rising popularity of Annamalai.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
