In another shocking attack in South Kashmir’s Shopian district, a female special police officer (SPO) was shot dead by terrorists on Saturday (16 March) right outside her house in the village of Vehil, reports India Today.
A case has been registered by Jammu & Kashmir Police and an investigation is currently underway.
"Terrorists today fired on a policewoman, Khushboo Jan, at her village in Vehil area of Shopian district. She sustained critical injuries and was evacuated to hospital where she succumbed. We condemn this gruesome terror act and stand by her family at this critical juncture," the police stated.
The area of the attack has been cordoned off by personnel from the Army, Special Operation Group of Police and CRPF. The killing comes on the heels of another ceasefire violation by Pakistan in the Mankote sector of Poonch district, where the Pakistani Army used heavy artillery to attack the Indian side.
The situation in the state has been tense ever since an attack in Pulwama in which at least 40 CRPF soldiers were martyred.
