The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has announced that it will launch a nationwide campaign from 10 June to boycott Chinese goods, Zee News has reported.

CAIT which represents 7 crore traders has said that besides asking shopkeepers not to sell Chinese products it will also urge consumers to buy Made-In-India products as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Vocal For Local appeal.

“...Imports from China have dropped from $ 76 billion in 2017-18 to $ 70 billion at present. This $ 6 billion import decline tells the true story of the use of indigenous goods and changing consumer sentiments”, CAIT Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal has been quoted as saying.

He added that the traders’ body is seeking to reduce the dependency on Chinese goods by $13 billion come December 2021. To achieve this, CAIT has claimed that it has prepared a list of 3,000 Chinese goods whose indigenous substitutes are easily available in the markets.
