The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has honoured Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the country’s highest decoration in recognition of the “pivotal role” played by him in strengthening the relations between the two countries, reports Times of India.
UAE President Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be conferred on Zayed Medal. Zayed Medal is the highest civilian decoration of UAE awarded to the kings, presidents and heads of states.
The award comes in appreciation of Modi's role in consolidating the long-standing friendship and joint strategic cooperation between the two countries.
"We have historical and comprehensive strategic ties with India, reinforced by the pivotal role of my dear friend, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who gave these relations a big boost. In appreciation of his efforts, the UAE President grants him the Zayed Medal," the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, tweeted on Thursday (4 April).

Shaikh Mohamed Bin Zayed explained that the historical relationship that the UAE shares with India is being renewed strategically and strengthened in preparation for the future. He praised the values that characterise Indian society in its diversity, especially tolerance, coexistence and respect.
Shaikh Mohamed Bin Zayed also expressed his pride at the strong friendship and cooperation between the UAE and India, and wished the country and its people continued progress, prosperity, security and stability.
The honour, in the past, has been given to the leaders of several countries, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Queen of United Kingdom Elizabeth II, and Crown Prince of Japan Naruhito among others.
Earlier, in April 2016, Saudi Arabia had conferred its highest civilian honour on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The award was presented by Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz at the Royal Court before Modi’s scheduled departure to New Delhi.
