A government-aided inter-college in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia has been accused of punishing students for singing Vande Mataram and chanting Bharat Mata Ki Jai, Press Trust of India has reported.
Following the accusations, the Ballia administration took a serious note of the issue and has ordered an inquiry. The inter-college is located in the region’s Bilthara road.
As per the report, members of a social welfare organisation – Manas Mandir, visited the GMAM Inter-College on Friday (5 October) only to find that the students were punished for Vande Mataram and Bharat Mata Ki Jai chants following the prayer session.
The president of the organisation – Shiv Kumar Jaiswal claimed that the allegations were also corroborated by the teachers of the inter-college.
He quoted the institution’s economics teacher Sanjay Pandey as corroborating the allegations. As per Pandey there is a ban on such chants in the school and those who mistakenly defied the ban were made to squat in the sun for hours.
Following the complaint, Jaiswal also sent a copy and recording of the students and teachers to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Since then District Magistrate Bhawani Singh Khangaraut has described the allegations as serious and promised that stern action would be taken against those found responsible.
