Uri: The Surgical Strike’s Bumper Rs 245 Crore Box Office Collection Helps Bollywood Achieve Record Q1 FiguresA scene from the film, Uri: The Surgical Strike.

In what has traditionally been considered as a period of slow ticket sales, box office collections for the first quarter of 2019 are set to reach a record level, boosted in particular by the extraordinary performance of Uri: The Surgical Strike, reports Mint.

The Rs 245.36 crore the movie has made in Indian theatres will constitute a large chunk of the Rs 1,150 crore estimated to be the industry’s quarterly revenue this time around. Overall, Uri is the tenth highest grossing movie of all time in Bollywood.

Other big money-makers for the Hindi film industry in recent months were Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, grossing Rs 92.19 crore, Gully Boy, which collected Rs 139.93 crore and Total Dhamaal which has made Rs 153.58 crore till now. Other films which have had a successful run are Luka Chuppi, Badla and Kesari.

Referring to the cold winter and unfavourable school schedules in the beginning of the year, film trade and exhibition expert Girish Johar remarked that the first quarter is generally seen as a dull period.

He explained that this has been changing in recent years, with early year released succeeding in generating good returns and boosting the industry’s confidence for the rest of the year.
