A pre-recorded video has been released by Tamil poet and lyricist Vairamuthu responding to the various allegations of sexual harassment raised against him. He has claimed that the allegations were falsified and made with the intention to ruin his image in society.

“The allegations have been levelled with some ulterior motive. I am ready to face any legal action that they initiate,” as reported by The Hindu
He also claimed that his legal team had substantial evidence in his favour and there were ongoing discussions between him and the team over the past week on how to proceed further.
“If you decide to file a case, I am ready to face it. I request people not to judge me now, not to decide if I’m a good person or not, and instead let the courts decide first,” he added. There were anonymous allegations against the lyricist as part of the #MeToo movement.
In a series of tweets, playback singer Chinmayi Sripaada had alleged that she was forced to cooperate with the lyricist by the organisers of an event in Switzerland. These allegations, however, were denied by Suresh, the event’s organiser, in a separate video.
Ms Chinmayi retorted shortly in a tweet after the lyricist’s video response came out saying, “Mr Vairamuthu should take a lie detector test. Enough said.”

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
