A video of a prominent Islamic preacher Abbas Siddiqui Furfura, wherein he can be heard appealing to the crowd to pray to Allah so that he sends a deadly virus in India which kills 50 crore people, has gone viral on social media.
Abbas Siddiqui, an influential Islamic cleric in Bengal, had earlier announced his plan to contest the West Bengal assembly elections in 2021. He belongs to the Siddiqui Furfura Sharif Darbar located in Jangipara in Hooghly district,
During the course of the video the cleric can be heard saying, “Allah Amar Bharat borshe emon kathin ekta virus dig, ei bharat borshe jano, 10-20-50 koti log more jaye (I pray to Allah that he sends such a deadly virus in India which kills up to 50 crore people)“.
The video clip was uploaded on 26 February and its description claims that this speech was made on 23 February in Mednipur.
In the video, the preacher is heard accusing China of atrocities against Muslim and said that when the Chinese government announced its decision to alter the Quran, the coronavirus pandemic broke out killing lakhs of its citizens including doctors.
“Ar Musalma ra ghure berache, mukhe kono guard ba packing nei, musolman der kono corona hocche na (Muslims are roaming freely without any personal protection equipment but they are not getting infected by coronavirus)“, the preacher adds.
He goes on to say that the Chinese as a result began seeking refuge in mosques which includes Chinese Premier Xi Jinping queuing up outside a mosque to offer namaz.
While alleging attacks on mosques during the Delhi riots, the preacher said that he hopes India soon follows China’s footsteps so that this country too gets affected by the coronavirus pandemic. He thus appealed to his followers to pray for such an outbreak in the country which kills 50 crore people.
In few public meetings, Siddiqui has claimed to be a “fan” of AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi.
