This is the third bank in Jammu and Kashmir which has been looted since the announcement of demonetisation on 8 November. It is also the second bank robbery within a week in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, which has been the epicentre of the ongoing unrest in the Valley.
A similar incident had taken place earlier on 8 December when unidentified men targeted the same bank's branch in Pulwama, looting Rs. 13.38 lakh. On 23 November, unidentified gunmen had looted over Rs 34 lakh from a Jammu and Kashmir Bank branch in Kishtwar district.
