Supreme Court of India. (@OnuorahMichael5/Twitter)The Supreme Court has rejected ordering a nationwide investigation into the shortage of medical oxygen during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The apex court maintained that it might be convenient to level criticism against the government but asserted that it will not be carrying out a ‘legal post mortem’ of previous events in order to ‘demoralise the authorities’.
The bench of justices BV Nagarathna and DY Chandrachud clarified that it is not interested in blaming the authorities that has a difficult task in tackling numerous crises.
“It is very easy to criticise the government because they are in the hot seat and you are not... or for that matter even to criticise the court,” the bench was quoted in a report by the Hindustan Times.
The judges added, “At this point, should we do a legal post mortem of a particular scheme or past events, or do we bring about some positive things... like we have done by setting up a national task force (NTF)?”
Simultaneously, the court assured that the responsibility of the Supreme Court is to push for positive changes in order to tackle contingencies in the coming times.
