Delivering a major blow to Congress in Kerala, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday (20 April 2019) inducted the three-time Congress Member of Parliament (MP) from Kollam, S Krishna Kumar into the party, reports Business Television India.
Kumar joined the BJP in the presence of senior party leader and former Union Minister Syed Shahnawaz Hussain and party’s spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Anil Baluni.
Speaking to the media, Kumar said: "I was associated with Rajiv Gandhi. And I was sad the way treatment was meted out to former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao. He (Rao) was not given a decent burial and even his remains were not kept at the Congress headquarters for the public," as reported by BTVI.
The BJP has traditionally not been able to gain a foothold in the southern state of Kerala and hopes to strengthen its presence and performance in the state. Kumar joining the BJP in the midst of Lok Sabha polls could help the party accomplish the same. Kerala has 20 members in the lower house of the parliament - Lok Sabha.
