With over 6.64 lakh Covid-19 tests conducted on Wednesday (5 August), more than 2.21 crore samples have been tested across the country for the disease so far, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has said.
At present, a total of 1,370 laboratories have been conducting the Covid-19 tests across the country. Of these, 921 are government while 459 are private laboratories.
As many as 6,64,949 samples were tested for Covid-19 on 5 August, the ICMR said.
"The total number of COVID-19 samples tested up to 5 August is 2,21,49,351 including 6,64,949 samples tested yesterday," said the ICMR in a bulletin shared on Twitter on Thursday (6 August), reports ANI.
Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases in India rose to over 19.6 lakh on Thursday, with 56,282 new coronavirus cases and 904 deaths reported in the country in the last 24 hours.
Currently, 5,95,501 cases are active and 1,328,336 people have recovered from the disease. As many as 40,699 fatalities have been reported in country so far.
