An FIR has been filed against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) IT Cell head Amit Malviya in Bengaluru.

The FIR is reportedly filed against Malviya's tweet mocking former Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi.

The tweet carried a caption which said, "Rahul Gandhi is dangerous and playing an insidious game".

According to a report by India Today, the FIR was lodged following a complaint by former Congress MLA Ramesh Babu.

Responding to this, Tejasvi Surya, Bengaluru South's Member of Parliament tweeted that the FIR was "politically motivated".

He said, "Case is registered under 153A and 505(2) of IPC for his alleged statement against Rahul Gandhi. Both the above sections deals with promoting enmity between groups. So, what is Rahul Gandhi? An individual or a group or a class? We will challenge this in the court & ensure justice".

Responding to the BJP's criticism, Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge said, "Whenever BJP bears the burnt of law, they cry. They have a problem following the law of the land. I want to ask the BJP that which part of the FIR has been filed with a mala fide intention. We have done it after taking legal opinion".

Further details awaited.
