The Kerala police said that four Youth Congress members who were arrested in connection with the probe into allegations of fake voter cards being made for recent elections to the party posts, had made them for the A-group of the Congress, reported Onmanorama.

Rahul Mamkoottathil, the newly elected Youth Congress president for the state is also part of the A-group, stated the report.

The A-group was once headed by leaders like AK Antony and Oomen Chandy.

Those arrested were identified as Abhi Vikram, Feny, Binil Binu and Vikas Krishna. The police stated that Feni and Binil Binu had been arrested while they were returning from a reception to felicitate Rahul. The duo was travelling in a car owned by him.

Another report by Onmanorama stated that 24 fake voter cards were seized by the police from the residences of the accused and one such fake voter card was made in the name of Tamil film actor Ajith.

The police also raided two printing presses in Pathanamthitta, reported Janam Online.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president K Surendran had written to the DGP on Friday (17 November) asking for a thorough investigation.

In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), he also stated that the top Congress leadership, i.e, Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, KC Venugopal and VD Satheesan were aware of the issue.

Calling it a serious offence, Surendran said that these voter cards could be used to purchase SIM cards or vote in the general elections. He also attached a screen recording of the process of making a voter card through the app.

The DYFI had also filed a complaint.
