According to officials investigating the incident, the explosions that occurred at a convention centre in Kochi during a prayer meeting of Jehovah's Witnesses were likely a deliberate act planned in advance, involving the use of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), as reported by Indian Express.

According to officials, three explosions happened in close succession, with the first blast occurring at approximately 9.30 am and the other two happening within the following 10 minutes.

According to Kerala DGP Sheikh Darvesh Sahib, initial findings suggest that the explosion was caused by an IED bomb, and it is currently under examination.

The explosions caused one death and injured 36 people, with five of them sustaining severe burn injuries.

Senior officers from both the National Investigation Agency and the Kerala Police have revealed that crucial evidence found at the scene, such as pieces of a tiffin box and wire, as well as what appeared to be remnants of a suitcase, strongly suggested that the incident was planned in advance.

The investigation is currently examining various aspects, with one particular factor contributing to its complexity being a rally held in Malappuram on Friday (27 October).

During this gathering, former Hamas chief Khaled Meshaal virtually addressed the attendees, expressing support for the Palestinians amidst the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Both state and central intelligence agencies have initiated an examination of this event.

Agencies in Kerala are currently investigating the changing religious landscape, particularly the tension between traditional religions and newer churches like Jehovah's Witnesses.

Over the past decade, there has been a shift in religious affiliations due to the popularity of these new-generation churches, which are known for their vibrant prayer sessions filled with songs, dance, and intense spiritual fervour, according to an officer.
