The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday (15 December) released the final list of 38 candidates for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.
AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal will contest the election from New Delhi assembly seat while Delhi Chief Minister Atishi will once again contest from Kalkaji.
Saurabh Bharadwaj will fight on AAP ticket from Greater Kailash.
AAP has replaced its sitting MLA from Kasturba Nagar, Madan Lal, by nominating Ramesh Pehlwan as its candidate.
Ramesh Pehlwan, along with his wife and councillor Kusum Lata, joined AAP after switching from the BJP.
The party's candidate list includes names like Gopal Rai from Babarpur, Amanatullah Khan from Okhla, and Satyendra Kumar Jain from Shakur Basti. For the upcoming Delhi elections, AAP has denied tickets to 20 of its sitting MLAs.
Among them, three MLAs have had their family members—sons and wives—nominated instead. Vikas Bagga, son of SK Bagga, will contest from Krishna Nagar, Puran Deep Sahni, son of Prahlad Sahni, will contest from Chandni Chowk, and Pooja Balyan, wife of Naresh Balyan, has been fielded from Uttam Nagar.
In AAP’s first candidate list, six out of the 11 nominees were leaders who had previously joined the party from the BJP and Congress, with three from each party. In its second list, the party replaced 15 sitting MLAs, opting instead for leaders who have been actively involved within the party organisation.
The election for the Delhi Assembly are scheduled to be held in February, with the Election Commission set to make the announcement of the polls soon.
