The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is set to introduce audio advertisements inside metro trains, beginning with the Pink Line, before extending the initiative to the Violet Line, the Hindustan Times reported.

Officials said the move comes after nearly two years of trial runs.

Initially, seven trains on the Pink Line, connecting Majlis Park and Jafrabad, will broadcast these ads, while six trains on the Violet Line between Kashmiri Gate and Tughlakabad will also be included.

The audio ads will feature brand promotions such as food chains and financial services.

Under the revenue-sharing model, DMRC will receive 85 per cent of the proceeds, while the remaining 15 per cent will go to the winning bidder, ensuring the corporation secures the larger share.

According to a 2023 report in the Indian Express, the initiative is part of DMRC’s broader strategy to strengthen non-ticketing revenue sources.

The COVID-19 pandemic had significantly impacted metro operations, leading to prolonged suspensions, phased resumptions, and restrictions.

This, in turn, limited fare-based income and prompted the corporation to explore alternative streams.

Previous steps have included co-branding of stations and the launch of the Momentum 2.0 app, aimed at ensuring operational sustainability.
