Andhra Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (APMRC) has floated a Request for Proposal (RFP) to hire a general consultant for Phase-1 of Vijayawada Metro Rail Project, shortly after initiating a similar process for the Visakhapatnam Metro Project.
The consultancy work is pegged at Rs 2.05 crore, with the General Consultant expected to support a broad array of responsibilities across the ambitious Phase-1 implementation of the Vijayawada Metro.
The responsibilities include procurement support, design services, construction management, supervision, system integration, interface management, testing and commissioning of the whole corridor and infrastructure management.
Phase 1 covers a distance of 38.40 kilometers and is split into two different corridors. Phase 1A starts from Gannavaram and goes up to the PNBS station, which is an interchange point. Phase 1B starts from PNBS and ends at Penamaluru.
The section will have 33 stations, with one that will be underground. The project will also include a double-decker flyover that will be around 4.70 kilometers long.
The total project cost, including the four-lane double-decker flyover, is approximately Rs 8,700 crore.
The consultant appointment is being made according to the directives of different multilateral funding agencies, including the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW), Agence Française de Développement (AFD), and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), as is with the Visakhapatnam Metro Rail Project.
Phase 2, planned to extend from PNBS to Amravati will cover 27.751 km, of which 23.067 km will be underground and 4.684 km will be elevated comprising of 18 stations—16 of which would be underground.
