Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced a significant pension hike on Saturday (21 June) just months before the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025.

Under the Social Security Pension Scheme, the monthly pension for elderly, disabled, and widowed women will now be Rs 1,100, a substantial increase from the previous Rs 400, reported Mint.

Kumar shared the news on X, stating, "All the beneficiaries will get a pension at the increased rate from the month of July."

He further added, "It will be ensured that this amount is sent to the account of all the beneficiaries on the 10th of the month. This will help 1 crore 9 lakh 69 thousand 255 beneficiaries a lot…"

This move comes as political parties in Bihar intensify their campaigns for the elections, expected in October-November 2025.

While the Election Commission has yet to announce the official schedule for the 243-seat Bihar Assembly, leaders have already begun engaging with voters.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently unveiled development projects worth over Rs 5,200 crore in Siwan, Bihar, and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi launched the party's 'Nyay Samvad' campaign on 15 May.

The upcoming election will likely see a contest between the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which includes Nitish Kumar's JDU, and the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance), led by the Congress and Tejashwi Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).

The Grand Alliance comprises six parties: RJD, Congress, Vikassheel Insaan Party, CPI, CPIML (Liberation), and CPIM.
