The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), alongside various religious and community-based organisations, has announced a massive protest demonstration termed the ‘Maha Dharna’ against The Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 which will be held at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, on 17 March.

The protest, according to AIMPLB, is a response to what it sees as repeated neglect of the Muslim community’s concerns surrounding the contentious bill, ANI reported.

"All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) along with all religious and community-based organizations, and justice-loving citizens across the country, will exercise their democratic and constitutional rights by staging a protest at Jantar Mantar," read a statement issued by the Board.

The General Secretary of AIMPLB, Maulana Mohd Fazlur Raheem Mujaddidi, said the Muslim community has made several attempts to engage with the government on the matter, but in vain.

“Large-scale protests were held across the country, organised by various Muslim organisations, voicing strong opposition to the bill. Despite these efforts, the legitimate concerns of the Muslim community have been ignored, and the NDA government remains committed to its agenda of seizing and destroying Waqf properties,” he said.

The Board also expressed dismay at NDA’s coalition partners, accusing them of betraying Muslim voters.

“It is deeply regrettable that even the NDA's allied parties, which claim to be secular and justice loving, are supporting the BJP's communal agenda despite receiving substantial Muslim votes,” the statement added.

Calling the bill a “direct attack on the community,” the Board stated, “This demonstration aims to knock on the conscience of secular parties, NDA allies and the nation itself. Perhaps this will help break the deadlock and enable us to effectively communicate our stance to the Members of Parliament.”
