A bus carrying Amarnath pilgrims rammed into four other vehicles on the national highway in Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district on Saturday morning (5 July), injuring 36 pilgrims, reported The Indian Express.
The incident occurred at Chanderkote as the bus, part of a pilgrimage convoy traveling from Jammu to Pahalgam, experienced suspected brake failure.
The injured pilgrims were part of the fourth batch of 5,196 devotees who had departed from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp.
Police officials stated that the last bus in the convoy struck four other buses that were stopped at a langar site.
District administration and police officials, already present at the scene, quickly transported the injured to a hospital.
There, medical staff provided first aid before discharging all individuals.
Following the incident, authorities reportedly transferred the pilgrims to other buses, and the Amarnath yatra convoy resumed its journey.
This year's 38-day annual Amarnath Yatra began on Thursday (3 July).
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha flagged off the first batch of yatris from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp.
Last year, the yatra recorded its highest footfall in 12 years, with over 5 lakh devotees visiting the holy cave.
