As many as 500 employees have reportedly been laid off by Amazon in India across various verticals.
Earlier in March, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy had announced that the company intended to layoff 9,000 employees.
The lay off process is currently underway, according to sources cited by NDTV.
Employees from Web Services, Human Resources, and Support departments of Amazon are being laid off, they added.
Some affected Amazon employees are part of global teams functioning in India, according to the sources.
Jassy, while announcing 9,000 job cuts in a note to Amazon staff in March, said that the decision was based on priority analysis and uncertainty about the economy.
Last year, the world's largest online seller adapted to reduced e-commerce growth due to customers reverting to pre-pandemic shopping routines.
Amazon is one of the several large tech companies, including Meta and Google, that are cutting jobs.
In January, the e-retailer had revealed plans to cut around 18,000 jobs due to the worldwide tech stock decline.
Amazon's Indian e-commerce business is facing difficult market conditions, resulting in a growth slowdown, according to sources.
