Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann inaugurated power transmission and distribution projects worth Rs 5,000 crore today in Jalandhar.

This major initiative forms part of the state's 'Roshan Punjab' mission, which aims to ensure 24-hour affordable electricity across the region within a year.

CM Mann had emphasised efforts to end power cuts in Punjab, noting that coal reserves have increased from two days to 25 days and that the government has acquired a 540 MW thermal plant.

Mann also highlighted free electricity units for households and extended 12-hour power supply for farmers, along with steps to prevent electricity theft.

Energy Minister Sanjeev Arora added that 24 new 66 kV substations, 1,030 new 11 kV feeders, and 88,308 transformers have been installed, ensuring electricity access for all households. He also announced plans to recruit 2,500 employees and 2,000 interns to speed up complaint resolution and improve departmental efficiency.

Kejriwal, as chief guest, launched the ambitious schemes, marking a significant investment in Punjab's energy sector. The projects include enhancements to substations and distribution networks, designed to reduce outages and promote sustainable power usage.

During his two-day tour, Kejriwal attended the ‘One India 2025’ National Cultural Festival at Lovely Professional University today. The event celebrates cultural unity and draws participants from across the nation, aligning with AAP's focus on inclusive development.

Tomorrow, the duo will head to Bathinda to lay the foundation stone for 3,100 new sports grounds, costing Rs 1,184 crore.
