Arvind Kejriwal Rules Out Alliance with Congress For Delhi Assembly Polls

Amid speculation about a joint contest, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal has once again dismissed the possibility of an alliance with the Congress for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections,

In a post on X, Kejriwal stated, “There is no possibility of any alliance with the Congress".

He asserted that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will contest the elections independently.

The clarification follows media reports suggesting a potential tie-up between the two parties for the 70-member Delhi Assembly polls scheduled for February 2025.

Earlier this month, Kejriwal had similarly ruled out an alliance between the two INDI Alliance partners for the Delhi elections.

Speculation over an alliance was reignited after the Congress canceled its ‘Nyay Chaupal’ event, where party leader Rahul Gandhi was to participate.

The event, which was set to mark the culmination of the Delhi Congress’s “Nyay Yatra,” was canceled without explanation, leading to speculations about possible behind-the-scenes negotiations.

Additionally, Kejriwal met NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Tuesday, December 10, amid growing calls within the INDI Alliance to appoint West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as the head of the bloc, currently chaired by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.

Both parties are reportedly proceeding cautiously to keep future political options open.

This cautious approach comes despite their prior collaboration in the Delhi Lok Sabha elections earlier this year, where they lost all seven seats to the BJP.

Attempts at a seat-sharing arrangement ahead of the Haryana Assembly polls in October also failed, with both parties unable to finalise an agreement.

The AAP has announced 31 candidates for the Delhi elections so far, with the remaining names expected soon.
