Arvind Kejriwal Withdraws Petition In SC Against His Arrest By ED, To Approach Lower Court

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who was arrested by the ED on Thursday after skipping nine summonses by the agency in liquor scam case, on Friday (22 March) withdrew the plea against his arrest from the Supreme Court.

Kejriwal will now approach a trial court, in accordance with protocol.

Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who was representing Kejriwal, told the top court that he will argue the case before the Magistrate regarding his remand when ED produces him before the Rouse Avenue court in Delhi.

"We are withdrawing the petition here as it is clashing with the remand. We will argue the remand and come back here . I will give a letter to the Registry (of Supreme Court regarding withdrawal)," Singhvi said, Bar and Bench reported.

The Court allowed the request.

Kejriwal had filed a plea in the apex court against his arrest by ED on Thursday (21 March) night.

The central probe agency arrested Kejriwal after the Delhi High Court on Thursday refused to grant him protection from the arrest.

The Aam Aadmi Party chief's move to withdraw the petition came hours after Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader K Kavitha, who was arrested last week by ED in the Delhi liquor policy case, saw her petition denied by the top court.

Kavitha was told to approach the trial court for relief, including bail.
