Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Sunday (22 December) that over 1,000 bridges are currently under construction across the state to enhance the road network. The CM emphasised that infrastructure development remains a top priority for his government.
“Construction of over 1,000 bridges is underway in Assam currently,” said CM Sarma during his visit to a bridge in the Lakhimpur district, where he unveiled several development initiatives.
In addition to infrastructure projects, Assam is preparing to host Advantage Assam 2.0, an investor summit scheduled for 24-25 February. The event aims to attract domestic and international investors while showcasing the state’s cultural heritage. “This summit is a platform to showcase Assam's rich traditions to a global audience in addition to attracting investors,” the CM stated.
A highlight of the event will be a grand performance of the traditional Jhumur dance, featuring over 7,500 dancers and artists. Each of Assam’s 800+ tea gardens will be represented by 32 male and 32 female dancers.
Elaborating on preparations for the cultural showcase, Sarma said, “Perfect execution will be ensured by master training workshops, constituency-level sessions, district-level performances, and final rehearsals in Guwahati.” The performance, scheduled for one of the summit days, is expected to leave a lasting impression on attendees.
Advantage Assam 2.0 builds on the success of the 2018 summit, aiming to boost infrastructure development and attract significant investments. The two-day event will further solidify Assam’s position as a key investment destination.
