The unsettling scenes at the site of the Azerbaijan Airlines plane crash near Aktau in Kazakhstan were captured on bodycam footage by Kazakh rescuers on Wednesday (25 December), a tragic incident that claimed the lives of 38 people.
The Embraer 190 aircraft, on its journey from Baku in Azerbaijan to Grozny, Russia, met with an accident near the Kazakh city of Aktau. The crash reportedly occurred after the plane was diverted due to foggy conditions.
The aircraft, which had 62 passengers and five crew members on board, had to execute an emergency landing. Authorities were able to rescue 29 survivors.
Instead of heading northwest from Baku to Grozny as intended, the aircraft veered off course, crossing the Caspian Sea, and tragically crashed near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan.
Russian media outlet RT shared bodycam footage from one of the rescuers, which recorded the aftermath of a plane crash. The video depicts firefighters hastening towards the flight to put out the fire at the crash site.
The footage revealed debris from the plane and personal items, along with fragments of clothing that appeared to belong to the unfortunate passengers of the doomed flight, strewn across the terrain.
The Ministry of Transport in Kazakhstan reported that the plane had onboard 37 Azerbaijani nationals, six Kazakhs, three individuals from Kyrgyzstan, and 16 Russians.
The Flight Radar website's tracking of the plane's trajectory indicated a deviation from its usual path. It was seen traversing the Caspian Sea before circling the vicinity where it ultimately met its tragic end near Aktau.
One of the alleged videos of the crash that appeared on social media was recorded by a passenger on the Azerbaijan Airlines flight. The video captured the horrifying instances before and after the accident, unveiling the disorderly situation within the plane.
A different video that's making rounds on social media shows a man in prayer just moments before the accident, with the background filled with the noise of the plane's engine and the clamor of panic.
